The M4 remains a versatile assault rifle in Modern Warfare 4, but this Season 1 configuration shared by Cbass takes a more aggressive approach to its handling. Rather than building entirely around recoil control, it combines faster weapon handling, improved mobility and selective recoil compensation to create an M4 suited to fast-paced multiplayer.
The most interesting part of this setup is how its five attachments balance one another. Several improve responsiveness at the expense of recoil, making the muzzle and underbarrel choices particularly important.
Here is the complete M4 loadout attributed to Cbass:
| Attachment Category | Attachment |
|---|---|
| Underbarrel | FSS Tac-90 Grip |
| Stock | Demo Dozer Stock |
| Rear Grip | ZLR Phase Grip |
| Barrel | ZLR Drift 16.5" |
| Muzzle | ZLR Reverb90 |
This configuration uses all five attachment slots without adding an optic, extended magazine or laser. Every selection contributes to either handling, movement or weapon stability.
The Demo Dozer Stock and ZLR Phase Grip form the handling-focused foundation of this build. Both improve ADS responsiveness, allowing the M4 to transition into aimed engagements more quickly. Their shared disadvantage is increased recoil, which becomes more noticeable during sustained fire.
The ZLR Drift 16.5" barrel reinforces the mobility-focused approach, improving movement characteristics while introducing additional recoil and handling trade-offs. This makes the configuration particularly interesting for players who frequently reposition between engagements rather than holding the same sightline.
Cbass's choice of the ZLR Reverb90 helps address part of that instability. Its vertical recoil reduction counteracts some of the upward movement introduced elsewhere in the configuration, although it does not eliminate horizontal recoil or completely offset the build's disadvantages.
Meanwhile, the FSS Tac-90 Grip reduces ADS idle sway and gun bob. Importantly, this attachment improves sight stability rather than directly reducing recoil during sustained automatic fire.
That distinction matters: the build aims to make the M4 responsive and comfortable when acquiring targets, but players still need to manage its recoil after pulling the trigger.
This setup makes the most tactical sense in close-to-medium-range multiplayer engagements, where responsive aiming and mobility can influence the outcome of a gunfight.
Players moving between objectives, checking corners or challenging opponents from different angles should find the handling-focused combination particularly relevant.
However, the configuration demands some discipline.
The recoil penalties associated with several attachments mean that excessively long bursts can become difficult to control, especially against smaller targets at distance. Shorter, controlled bursts are worth considering when challenging opponents across open areas.
Another important limitation is the absence of an extended magazine. Players who frequently encounter multiple opponents without an opportunity to reload may prefer sacrificing one attachment slot for additional ammunition.
Similarly, the lack of a dedicated optic means players must be comfortable with the M4's standard sights. Adding a reflex sight would be a reasonable personal adjustment, but doing so requires removing one of the five listed attachments.
Cbass's M4 configuration offers a distinct alternative to builds that prioritise maximum recoil reduction. Its defining characteristic is the combination of responsive handling and increased mobility, supported by attachments that address specific aspects of weapon stability.
It is particularly worth considering for aggressive multiplayer players who prefer repositioning, quick target acquisition and frequent medium-range fights.
Those who consistently hold long sightlines may benefit more from a configuration with stronger overall recoil control.

For players comfortable managing some extra recoil, this M4 offers an appealing way to prioritise responsiveness without turning the rifle into a purely close-range weapon.
