Modern Warfare 4 Gets First Major Patch: Weapon Changes Next?
Modern Warfare 4's first post-launch update fixes major Multiplayer and DMZ issues, while developers tease upcoming weapon balancing changes that could shake up the meta.

Modern Warfare 4 has received its first launch-day update, with Infinity Ward addressing stability problems, Multiplayer bugs, and a substantial collection of issues affecting DMZ. The patch, published on October 23, 2026, also includes an important message about weapon balancing: further adjustments are already being considered for next week.
The latest changes appear in the official Modern Warfare 4 patch notes, which now separate the October 23 updates from the earlier pre-launch adjustments.
While this is primarily a corrective update rather than a major gameplay overhaul, several fixes have immediate practical implications, particularly for players progressing through DMZ.
Weapon Balance Changes Could Arrive Next Week
Infinity Ward has confirmed that it is monitoring weapon performance across Modern Warfare 4, with potential tuning adjustments being evaluated for the following week.
Crucially, Multiplayer and DMZ use separate weapon balancing systems. That distinction matters because a weapon performing particularly well in traditional Multiplayer is not necessarily subject to identical adjustments in DMZ.
For now, the October 23 notes do not announce specific weapon buffs or nerfs. No individual firearms, damage values, recoil characteristics, or attachment statistics are identified as receiving balance changes in this update.
Players considering major changes to their loadouts therefore have no confirmed new weapon adjustments to account for yet.
Infinity Ward also addressed the disappearance of certain Apex Attachments previously available during the Beta. Some of these attachments were included early to test seasonal event content and gather balancing feedback. The studio confirmed that they will return, although no specific date has been announced.
Multiplayer Fixes Target Free-for-All and Summit
The immediate Multiplayer changes are relatively limited, but they resolve two identifiable gameplay problems.
The Portable Radar Field Upgrade previously failed to function correctly in Free-for-All matches. That issue has now been addressed, restoring the equipment's intended enemy-detection functionality in the mode.
