Modern Warfare 4 Hits No. 1 on Steam's US Chart Before Campaign Early Access

According to the official Call of Duty announcement, players who digitally pre-order or pre-purchase either the Standard Edition or Vault Edition are eligible to play the campaign early.

The offer applies across supported digital storefronts, including Steam, Battle.net, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Importantly, the Vault Edition is not required for Campaign Early Access. Players purchasing the digital Standard Edition receive the same early campaign access benefit.

The campaign itself follows Private Park, a young South Korean soldier thrown into a major conflict following North Korea's invasion of the South.

Meanwhile, Captain Price returns with a separate storyline involving revenge, dangerous alliances and a weapon capable of dramatically escalating the conflict.

These two narratives form the foundation of Modern Warfare 4's single-player experience, which players with eligible digital pre-orders can explore before the official launch.

Campaign Early Access is not the only pre-order benefit

Modern Warfare 4 also has another early-access period scheduled before October 23.

Activision has confirmed that DMZ Early Access begins on October 20, giving eligible digital pre-order customers access to the extraction shooter mode ahead of the complete game's release.

The confirmed schedule is:

• October 16: Campaign Early Access begins.
• October 20: DMZ Early Access begins.
• October 23: Modern Warfare 4 officially launches worldwide.

Both digital Standard Edition and Vault Edition buyers qualify for Campaign and DMZ Early Access, although actual availability may vary by platform and time zone.

For players primarily interested in multiplayer, the distinction is important: purchasing the game early does not provide access to the complete launch experience on October 16.

What does the Steam ranking mean for Modern Warfare 4?

Modern Warfare 4's position on Steam indicates that the upcoming release is generating substantial purchasing activity, particularly among US PC players.

Still, a strong revenue ranking before launch should not be confused with confirmed sales records or evidence of the game's eventual success.
