Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is dropping Weekly Challenges for Season 1, as Infinity Ward shifts its focus toward a redesigned Events system offering unlockable content and cosmetic rewards.
The decision was confirmed in the game's official launch patch notes, published on October 21, ahead of Modern Warfare 4's full release on October 23.
Infinity Ward explained that it wants seasonal Events to offer more meaningful rewards, rather than maintaining the familiar weekly challenge structure. The announcement specifically applies to Season 1, with no confirmation yet about whether Weekly Challenges will return in subsequent seasons.
Modern Warfare 4 is replacing Weekly Challenges with more rewarding Events
The absence of Weekly Challenges is part of a broader change to how players earn rewards throughout Modern Warfare 4's post-launch lifecycle.
Infinity Ward confirmed that Events will feature both new formats and returning favorites, with several categories of rewards available:
- Apex Attachments, offering additional weapon customization options.
- Weapon Camos for players looking to expand their cosmetic collections.
- Operator Skins to customize their characters.
- Calling Cards and other unlockable rewards.
The first Event will begin on October 23, coinciding with the game's full launch.
One particularly important change concerns recurring Events. Infinity Ward says certain Events will return, giving players another opportunity to complete reward tracks they previously missed.
The developer also confirmed that completing multiple Events can unlock additional camo rewards.
This introduces a different incentive structure from traditional Weekly Challenges. Instead of completing a fresh checklist every week, players will have Event-specific reward tracks to pursue, with some rewards connected to participation across multiple Events.
