Modern Warfare 4 Is Making a Huge Change to Prestige, and Players Finally Have a Choice

One of the most important details is that choosing Classic or Regular Prestige is not a permanent commitment.

Modern Warfare 4 features 10 Prestige levels, and players can select their preferred progression path each time they enter a new Prestige.

Someone could therefore choose Regular Prestige initially to preserve their multiplayer loadouts, then switch to Classic Prestige later to take advantage of its additional rewards.

This flexibility makes the system considerably different from a traditional all-or-nothing Prestige reset.

It also introduces a meaningful progression decision. Classic Prestige offers greater rewards and faster XP earnings, but requires players to unlock their equipment again. Regular Prestige removes that inconvenience at the expense of those extra bonuses.

For players who frequently change weapons and experiment with different classes, Classic Prestige may provide an appealing challenge. Those who rely on specific loadouts for competitive multiplayer can instead preserve their equipment through Regular Prestige.

Modern Warfare 4 includes 10 Prestige levels and a Level 1,000 grind

The new system extends beyond the initial Prestige choices.

Modern Warfare 4 includes 10 Prestige levels, followed by Prestige Master progression that continues all the way to Level 1,000.

Each Prestige tier features rewards inspired by previous Infinity Ward Call of Duty titles, including weapon blueprints, Operator skins, emblems, and other cosmetics.

For example, Prestige 1 features rewards inspired by the original Call of Duty from 2003, while Prestige 8 celebrates Modern Warfare (2019) with special M4 blueprints.

Many rewards are shared between the two progression paths, although Classic Prestige players receive bonus variants and other exclusive items.

After completing all 10 Prestige tiers, players can continue through Prestige Master to unlock additional rewards, including legacy Prestige icons and customization options.

Which Prestige path should you choose?

The biggest difference comes down to whether players value convenience or additional progression rewards.

Regular Prestige is the straightforward option for anyone who wants to keep their established multiplayer classes intact while continuing to earn Prestige levels.

Classic Prestige makes more sense for players willing to rebuild their unlocks in exchange for a 20% XP boost, Permanent Unlock Tokens, and extra cosmetics.

Importantly, neither choice locks players into the same approach for the entire Prestige journey.

By allowing players to reconsider their decision at every Prestige, Modern Warfare 4 preserves the traditional reset experience without making it mandatory for everyone.

With the game's full launch scheduled for October 23, 2026, the two-path system gives players more control over how they approach one of Call of Duty's longest-standing progression features.
