Modern Warfare 4 Isn't Even Fully Out Yet, but It's Already Helped Call of Duty Beat Black Ops 7's Steam Peak
Modern Warfare 4's campaign launch has pushed Call of Duty to 108,500 concurrent Steam players, surpassing Black Ops 7's launch peak before the full game is even released.

The early access launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign has delivered an encouraging result on Steam, with the shared Call of Duty application reaching approximately 108,500 concurrent players, surpassing the peak recorded during Black Ops 7's launch period.
The milestone was highlighted by CharlieIntel on October 17, following the campaign's early access release on October 16. For comparison, Black Ops 7 reached approximately 100,500 concurrent players on Steam during its November 2025 launch.
That puts the recent peak roughly 8% above Black Ops 7's previous benchmark, even though Modern Warfare 4's full release is still scheduled for October 23.
Modern Warfare 4 reaches 108,500 Steam players before its full launch
The timing makes the comparison particularly interesting.
According to Activision's official announcement, Modern Warfare 4's campaign became available on October 16 to players who digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased the game.
This early access period gives eligible players the opportunity to experience the entire single-player campaign before the remaining modes arrive.
Despite that limited rollout, the concurrent player count reported by CharlieIntel, based on SteamDB tracking, has already exceeded the peak associated with Black Ops 7's full-game launch.
However, there is an important distinction between the reported figures and what they actually establish.
SteamDB tracks the shared Call of Duty application rather than Modern Warfare 4 independently. The application also supports Black Ops 7 and Warzone, meaning the 108,500 figure includes players potentially accessing those experiences.
