Modern Warfare 4 Pre-Load Begins October 14, But There's a Catch for Warzone Players
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 pre-load begins October 14, but Warzone players should be careful. Here's what you need to know about downloads, Season 1, and automatic installations on PS5.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 pre-installation is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 14, at 9 PM PT, giving players the opportunity to prepare their systems ahead of launch. However, anyone expecting to download the next version of Warzone at the same time should pay close attention to what they are actually installing.
Although the pre-installation process allows players to select both Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone, the updated battle royale experience will not become available until Season 1 launches.
That distinction is particularly important for players who want to manage their downloads and avoid installing content they do not currently need.
Modern Warfare 4 Pre-Installation Starts October 14
The rollout begins at 9 PM Pacific Time on October 14, with players able to select which game components they want to install during the setup process.
Rather than requiring everyone to download the same package, the installation options allow users to choose their preferred content, including whether Warzone should be installed alongside Modern Warfare 4.
For players who primarily intend to focus on Modern Warfare 4, this provides an opportunity to review the available components before committing to additional downloads.
However, the options presented during installation come with an important limitation.
Selecting Warzone Won't Download the Season 1 Version
Players who select Warzone during the initial Modern Warfare 4 pre-installation will receive the currently available live version of Warzone, not the upcoming version associated with Season 1.
The new Warzone experience will only become accessible when Season 1 officially launches.
In practical terms, selecting Warzone during pre-installation should not be mistaken for gaining early access to the next iteration of the battle royale.
This also means players interested exclusively in the updated Warzone experience should understand that the October 14 rollout does not make that content available.
