Another could produce a black screen after an entire squad was eliminated when a teammate had Possum equipped.
These fixes address technical problems independently of the new gameplay restrictions.
Multiplayer weapon balancing targets SMGs and damage consistency
The October 28 patch also introduces Modern Warfare 4's first broad weapon tuning update.
Infinity Ward's stated priorities are improving SMG performance and making damage more consistent across different hit locations.
Several SMGs, including the ISO Nightshade, PPSh-41, VEL 46, Wz.55 Striga and X-58 Nyx, have received improvements to arm and hand damage multipliers.
The PPSh-41 additionally benefits from faster aim-down-sights speed, reduced from 300 milliseconds to 280 milliseconds.
Assault rifles have received a combination of adjustments. The Kastov 762 and M4 gain additional maximum damage range, while the Oden receives reductions to several body damage multipliers.
Not every change is a straightforward buff or nerf. The Hyeon Burst's Hyperburst Apex Attachment, for example, receives reduced maximum full-auto damage but an increased maximum damage range.
These adjustments should not automatically be interpreted as a confirmed new weapon ranking. Their practical effects depend on the weapon, hit location and specific engagement.
For the individual weapon changes and before-and-after statistics, see our Modern Warfare 4 weapon buffs and nerfs breakdown.
Shipment 24/7, Gun Game and new playlists arrive
Modern Warfare 4's playlist rotation was also refreshed on October 27, introducing additional options for Multiplayer.
The updated selection includes:
- Shipment 24/7 — New playlist.
- Kill Block: 6v6 Gunfight — New playlist.
- Gun Game — New playlist.
- Frontline
- Inflation
- Collateral
Free-for-All has also received an adjustment following player feedback.
Infinity Ward previously experimented with changing the score limit after observing that matches frequently reached their time limit.
The developer has now restored the 30-point score limit, while the maximum party size is set to two players.
Final Killcam is also scheduled to return in a future backend update, although no exact date has been confirmed.
Camo challenges and weapon progression receive important fixes
Several corrections address frustrating progression issues that could make it difficult to understand which challenges players had completed.
Infinity Ward has fixed missing progress counters for Camo and Special Camo requirements across multiple weapon categories.
The update also resolves an issue preventing the Fungal Grid Camo from appearing in the selection menu.
Additional improvements include:
- Automatic tracking of the next Camo Challenge after unlocking a Camo.
- Military Camos no longer incorrectly appearing locked after Weapon Prestige.
- Corrected Multiplayer Loadout resets when Prestiging through the DMZ FOB.
- Fixed overlapping Calling Card requirements and progress bars.
- Restored Blueprint attachment appearances when removing and reapplying attachments in the menu.
- Corrected Crossfire and Argonaut Killstreak icons in the Multiplayer Killfeed.
Challenge tracking has also been adjusted.
The maximum distance threshold for Point Blank Challenges has been increased, while the minimum distance required for Longshot Challenges has been decreased.
These adjustments affect the conditions under which eligible eliminations count toward progression, potentially making some challenges less restrictive.
However, Infinity Ward has not published the precise new distance thresholds in this update.
DMZ fixes target disappearing weapons and missing rewards
Beyond the Possum changes, DMZ receives several important corrections affecting deployment preparation, inventory management and progression rewards.
One particularly disruptive problem involved the 3D Printer. Players using it to add items to their Backpack during deployment could sometimes enter DMZ without their Free Loadout weapons or equipment.
That issue has now been addressed.
The patch also fixes weapons unexpectedly disappearing or dropping during certain inventory interactions, including transferring weapons from the Primary Weapon slot to a Backpack and repeatedly switching weapon slots.
Other confirmed improvements include:
- Fixed the missing 3-Plate Armor Vest reward at DMZ Level 37.
- Corrected an Airbase Access Card upgrade issue during a Story Mission.
- Fixed missing Ping markers on automatically marked Order mission items.
- Resolved several additional exploits affecting DMZ.
For players managing valuable equipment across deployments, these changes are especially relevant. Inventory reliability directly affects preparation and the ability to complete missions without losing equipment through unintended behavior.
Some Modern Warfare 4 issues remain unresolved
Despite the extensive list of fixes, Infinity Ward continues to investigate several problems.
The October 28 official patch notes identify an issue affecting the Patriot XMR Platinum Camo Challenge, where progress may not display correctly in the interface.
Importantly, the developer says players can still complete and progress through the challenge despite the inaccurate display.
Other known issues include some Calling Card challenges not tracking as intended and problems with Best Play selection in Multiplayer.
Infinity Ward has also acknowledged a Prestige-related issue affecting players who enter Classic Prestige through DMZ menus. In certain circumstances, previously created Multiplayer classes containing relocked items must be deleted before players can create new classes.
The official patch notes provide the latest confirmed details, while further fixes remain under development.
