Modern Warfare 4 Won’t Be on Game Pass at Launch and the Wait Is Longer Than You Think
Activision confirms Modern Warfare 4 won't be available on Xbox Game Pass when it launches on October 23. Subscribers will have to wait until Holiday 2027 unless they purchase the game separately.

Activision has delivered another reminder to Xbox Game Pass subscribers ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's release: the new shooter won't be included with Game Pass at launch, and subscribers will have to wait until Holiday 2027 to access it through the service.
With Modern Warfare 4 scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, anyone hoping to play on day one will need to buy the game separately, regardless of their existing Game Pass subscription.
The publisher reiterated the decision in an official Call of Duty announcement on October 15, removing any remaining uncertainty about the game's launch availability.
Modern Warfare 4 won't join Game Pass until Holiday 2027
Activision's latest statement confirms that Modern Warfare 4 will launch as a standalone purchase rather than becoming part of Microsoft's subscription catalogue immediately.
The Holiday 2027 release window isn't a new development. Xbox had already notified Game Pass subscribers about the delayed availability earlier in 2026.
However, with launch approaching, Activision has chosen to reinforce that message.
The distinction is significant for players who have grown accustomed to accessing recent Call of Duty releases through Game Pass without buying them individually.
While Microsoft's subscription service continues to offer several earlier entries in the franchise, Modern Warfare 4 represents a different approach.
Activision has confirmed that Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will retain access to Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III, but that access will not extend to Modern Warfare 4 when it launches.
The publisher has not yet specified an exact Game Pass release date within Holiday 2027 or confirmed which subscription tiers will include the title.
