Call of Duty Season 1 is here! Discover new Warzone maps Hajin and Zodiac, MW4 weapons, DMZ X01, 120Hz support, and the end of PS4 and Xbox One compatibility.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone Season 1 is officially live, bringing new Multiplayer maps, a major Warzone integration, fresh weapons, the X01 DMZ expansion, and several important platform changes.
Alongside the new content, Infinity Ward has restored access to 120Hz Performance Mode on supported PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S displays, even without Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Meanwhile, Warzone has officially ended support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Here's what players can access with the Season 1 update and what these changes mean for each game mode.
Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 introduces four Multiplayer maps
Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer receives four additions to its 6v6 map rotation, combining new environments with familiar locations.
The Season 1 lineup includes:
Backstab: A new map set in a snow-covered town.
Canyon: A new environment combining open terrain, natural cover, and elevation changes.
Shoot House: The returning three-lane Multiplayer map, presented in a new setting.
Kill Block: Crash: A featured map combination designed for 6v6 gameplay.
Grind and Drop Zone also return to the Multiplayer playlist selection. Gauntlet 1v1 is scheduled to arrive later in the season.
The update additionally introduces two weapons: the Cronen Osprey assault rifle and the CSG-35 SMG, with further weapons and attachments planned during Season 1.
Players should also review the latest weapon balance adjustments before relying on their previous loadouts. Infinity Ward has published changes affecting damage profiles, range, and other weapon characteristics in the official Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 patch notes.
Warzone Season 1 brings Hajin, Zodiac, and Modern Warfare 4 integration
Warzone's Season 1 update is more than a content refresh. It fully integrates Modern Warfare 4 into the free-to-play experience, introducing new weapons, progression systems, equipment, and gameplay mechanics.
The two headline map additions are:
Hajin: A large-scale Battle Royale map spanning 13 major Points of Interest across North and South Korea.
Zodiac: A compact Resurgence map centered around a DRC Advanced Systems facility.
Verdansk and Rebirth Island remain part of the available map selection, giving players access to both established and new locations.
Warzone also gains access to Modern Warfare 4's 33 launch weapons, alongside additional Season 1 armaments. New equipment includes the Zipline Launcher and Grabber Drone, while Elite Perks expand the available loadout options.
Several gameplay adjustments accompany the integration. Tactical Sprint becomes available without requiring a Perk, although its duration is slightly reduced. Players can also drag teammates while reviving them.
These changes are worth understanding before returning to Warzone. The Tactical Sprint adjustment affects how players manage movement, while dragging a downed teammate introduces an additional positioning option during revives.
DMZ players can now explore X01, a newly accessible underground GRANIT Arms black site beneath Hajin.
Rather than introducing an entirely separate large-scale outdoor map, X01 expands the existing Hajin environment with underground areas, new threats, equipment, and additional DMZ Orders.
Season 1 also updates Forward Operating Base systems, including Boss Board information and additional equipment options.
For players already familiar with Hajin, X01 adds another area to investigate and new objectives to pursue without changing the overall setting of the DMZ experience.
120Hz Performance Mode is now available without VRR
One of the most useful technical changes in the Season 1 update concerns console display compatibility.
Infinity Ward has confirmed that Performance Mode (120Hz) is now available to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players using 120Hz-capable displays, regardless of whether those displays support VRR.
Previously, the mode's availability could be restricted by VRR compatibility.
With Season 1, players who own a compatible 120Hz monitor or television can access the performance option without needing VRR support.
Infinity Ward still recommends VRR for the best experience.
It's important to distinguish between enabling a 120Hz display mode and maintaining a constant 120 frames per second. The announcement confirms wider access to the display setting, not a guaranteed frame rate during every gameplay situation.
For console players using high-refresh-rate monitors without VRR, this is a meaningful accessibility improvement.
Warzone officially drops PS4 and Xbox One support
Season 1 also marks the end of Warzone support on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As of November 6, Warzone is no longer playable on either last-generation console.
This is a platform compatibility change rather than a progression reset requiring players to start their accounts from scratch.
Activision confirms that players moving to a supported platform can retain their progression by signing in with the same linked Activision account.
Warzone also makes its Nintendo Switch 2 debut with Season 1, expanding its supported platform lineup as PS4 and Xbox One are retired.
Players planning to change hardware should ensure they can access their existing Activision account before making the switch.
Season 1 introduces a new 100-tier Battle Pass
Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launches with a redesigned, linear Battle Pass featuring 100 tiers.
A notable addition is an automatic catch-up system that advances players to the reward corresponding to the current day of the season, up to Day 50.
Available rewards include:
Two new base weapons
Operator skins
Weapon blueprints
Finishing moves
Calling cards and weapon charms
COD Points and Double XP tokens
DMZ Survival Kits
Additional bonus rewards are planned for eligible Battle Pass owners who complete all 100 tiers.
With Season 1 now available, players can explore the new Multiplayer maps, enter Hajin and Zodiac in Warzone, investigate X01 in DMZ, and take advantage of the updated console performance settings.
For returning players, the most important preparation is straightforward: check the new weapon balance changes, review the revised Warzone mechanics, and confirm platform compatibility before jumping into the new season.
