Call of Duty Hits $40 Billion as Modern Warfare 4 Arrives
Xbox reveals a staggering $40 billion milestone for Call of Duty, just days after Modern Warfare 4's launch. But how much of that success comes from the new game?

The Call of Duty franchise has reached $40 billion in lifetime revenue, according to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, marking another major financial milestone for Activision's long-running shooter series.
Sharma announced the figure on October 26, 2026, just three days after the worldwide launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
In a post on X, the Xbox executive celebrated the achievement while describing Modern Warfare 4 as one of the most celebrated releases in the franchise's 24-year history. She also congratulated Activision's development teams and thanked players for their continued support.
Call of Duty's revenue has grown by roughly $10 billion since 2022
The latest milestone highlights how much the Call of Duty business has expanded beyond traditional annual game releases.
In June 2022, Activision revealed that the franchise had generated more than $30 billion in lifetime revenue, alongside over 425 million copies sold across the series.
Four years later, the cumulative revenue figure has reached $40 billion, reflecting the commercial strength of a franchise that now encompasses premium releases, Warzone, Call of Duty: Mobile and additional in-game purchases.
However, the latest announcement does not provide a breakdown of revenue by individual game, platform or business model.
That distinction is particularly important given the timing of the announcement.
What does the milestone tell us about Modern Warfare 4?
Modern Warfare 4 officially launched on October 23, bringing a new single-player campaign, 20 multiplayer maps and the return of DMZ as a dedicated extraction mode.
The release also represents a notable change in Microsoft's distribution strategy. Unlike some recent Call of Duty titles, Modern Warfare 4 launched as a standalone purchase rather than being included in Xbox Game Pass on day one.
According to Activision's official announcement, the game is not scheduled to join Game Pass until the 2027 holiday season.
