Call of Duty Player Claims ASUS Gaming Monitor Saved His Life After Stopping a Stray Bullet
A late-night Call of Duty session turned terrifying when a stray bullet pierced a player's wall and struck his $280 ASUS monitor. The remarkable incident even prompted a response from ASUS.

A late-night Call of Duty session took a terrifying turn when a player discovered that a stray bullet had penetrated their home's exterior wall and struck their ASUS gaming monitor. The player believes the screen may have prevented a potentially devastating injury.
The incident was shared on November 2 by Reddit user u/antisocialnae, who described their five-year-old gaming monitor as the "Best $280 I ever spent!"
According to the player's original Reddit post, the frightening discovery came after they heard several loud bangs outside while playing Call of Duty.
Realizing the sounds were not coming from the game, they immediately dropped to the floor and called emergency services.
After speaking with a 911 operator, the player noticed a bullet hole in the wall directly behind their gaming setup. The projectile had apparently continued into their primary monitor, with no visible exit hole on the opposite side.
A $280 ASUS monitor becomes an unexpected lifesaver
The monitor involved was an ASUS TUF Gaming VG258QM, a 24.5-inch Full HD gaming display featuring a refresh rate of up to 280Hz.
The player purchased it approximately five years earlier while assembling their first gaming setup.
Although the display suffered significant damage, the bullet apparently stopped inside it rather than passing completely through.
The player explained that they were shocked to realize how differently the situation might have ended depending on the bullet's trajectory.
In a follow-up comment, they admitted to crying after the situation had calmed down and the seriousness of the incident had finally sunk in.
Fortunately, the player reported no injuries. They also mentioned owning two additional ASUS monitors, although they had not yet powered on their gaming PC to check whether it had survived the incident.
ASUS responds to the remarkable incident
The story attracted the attention of ASUS, with a company representative responding directly to the original Reddit discussion.
