Warzone Season 1 brings back weapons from MW2, MW3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7, but there's a major catch. Gunsmith customization is gone for Legacy Weapons, and old Blueprints will need to be unlocked again.
Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1 will preserve weapons from previous Call of Duty titles, but players will face significant restrictions when using them. With the Modern Warfare 4 integration arriving on November 6, older weapons will remain playable without access to the full Gunsmith customization system.
Activision confirmed the changes in its official Season 1 announcement, published on November 2, outlining how Carry Forward content and Legacy Weapons will function in the updated version of Warzone.
Which Weapons Will Carry Forward to Warzone Season 1?
Weapons from four previous Call of Duty titles will remain available:
Modern Warfare II
Modern Warfare III
Black Ops 6
Black Ops 7
Players will find these weapons in a dedicated Legacy tab within the Loadout menu, separate from the Modern Warfare 4 weapon collection.
The distinction matters because Modern Warfare 4 weapons will support the complete weapon customization experience, while Legacy Weapons will operate under a considerably more restricted system.
Legacy Weapons Will Lose Gunsmith Customization
The biggest change concerns weapon attachments.
Although Legacy Weapons will remain usable in Warzone, players will no longer be able to edit their attachments through Gunsmith.
Instead, each Legacy base weapon will have a predefined five-attachment configuration. Players will also be able to use Legacy Weapon Blueprints with their existing attachment setups.
This means players won't be able to recreate or fine-tune their previous custom builds by swapping individual attachments.
Legacy Weapons will also be excluded from several Modern Warfare 4 features:
Mastery Camos: Legacy Weapons won't support the new MW4 Mastery Camo progression.
Reticle Challenges: The new reticle challenge system won't apply.
Weapon Customization: Players won't have access to the full customization options.
Cosmetic Gunsmithing: The new cosmetic customization features won't be supported.
Build Sharing and Build Codes: Players won't be able to share Legacy Weapon configurations using MW4's build-sharing system.
The restrictions create a clear separation between the new weapon collection and older weapons carried forward from previous games.
Legacy Weapon Blueprints Must Be Unlocked Through the Armory
Another important detail concerns existing weapon blueprints.
Activision confirmed that Legacy Weapon Blueprints will initially be locked and available to unlock through Player XP in the Armory.
These blueprints will retain their established attachment configurations, but players should not assume every previously acquired blueprint will be immediately available when Season 1 begins.
The distinction between base weapons and blueprints is particularly important. Base Legacy Weapons will have predefined five-attachment versions, while blueprints will preserve their own attachment setups.
Because Gunsmith editing won't be supported, these configurations will determine how players can equip their returning weapons.
What Happens to Previously Earned Operators and Cosmetics?
The Carry Forward system extends beyond weapons.
Operators, Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, Calling Cards, Emblems, Finishing Moves, Emotes, Sprays, Parachutes, and Contrails from the four previous titles will remain available in Warzone.
However, Activision previously clarified that weapon camos from older Call of Duty games will not carry forward, correcting an earlier announcement that suggested otherwise.
Warzone will also introduce an Operator Skin Toggle, allowing players to control which Operator Skins they see during matches without changing the Operator they personally have equipped.
This feature will apply exclusively to Warzone.
What Do These Changes Mean for the Warzone Meta?
The new system establishes an important difference between Modern Warfare 4 weapons and the returning arsenal.
Players using MW4 weapons will have access to the full customization system, including the ability to adjust their builds through Gunsmith.
Legacy Weapons, meanwhile, will function through predefined configurations and existing blueprint setups.
For players who previously relied on highly customized weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, or Black Ops 7, this removes the ability to make individual attachment adjustments for different situations.
Activision has previously explained that its intention is to make Warzone's weapon meta feel more closely connected to Modern Warfare 4 while preserving access to older weapons.
However, these restrictions do not automatically mean Legacy Weapons will be weaker in combat. Their effectiveness will still depend on weapon characteristics, available configurations, and the actual balancing introduced with Season 1.
Raven Software has also committed to weapon balancing every two weeks, meaning the competitive relationship between MW4 and Legacy Weapons may continue to evolve.
Warzone Season 1 launches November 6, 2026, bringing the Modern Warfare 4 integration and the revised Carry Forward system into effect.
